Welcome to CAPE

Welcome to CAPE

CAPE is a professional network for those engaged in supporting schools in their child protection responsibilities. Its geographical base is in the north of England, though it has members from further afield.

CAPE meets at least once per term, to discuss current issues for child protection in the education service, to share training ideas, and to provide mutual support. Activities include the generation of information and material for child protection, some of which has led to publication.

CAPE has no officers or committee. Members chair and administer in rotation. Decisions are normally taken by consensus, rather than by voting. The group is truly democratic and non-hierarchical. National and international conferences are organised by ad hoc groups.

CAPE can claim to speak for highly experienced and well-informed child protection trainers and officers. Members include LA Advisers, Principal Education Welfare Officers, DfES Investigating Officers, NSPCC Education Officers, and freelance trainers. Some are designated LA child protection officers and many sit on Area Child Protection Committees.

CAPE welcomes attendance from anyone who is concerned with the child protection response of school staff and who is able to reach meetings in the North. It hopes to encourage by example the formation of similar groups in other areas.
